Purple Reign

I was recently told by a graphic designer who deals with many personalities throughout the day, that a person who uses the color purple is hard to please.

While this may be debatable, it has been said that the color can be calming to the mind and nerves and encourages creativity. The colors purple, violet and lavender lend for an elegant and sophisticated look to any home space.

Be careful, the color purple may evoke a sense of royalty within; in which case one may be moved to call the color aubergine…which would be regally appropriate.

Outta Towner

I am so excited to be heading out of town tomorrow morning to visit a friend in the South West area of Florida.

In all honestly, I shutter the thought of going to Florida after countless August summer vacations as a child; the heat becomes absolutely unbearable.  However, I must say Florida is a great alternative to the cold, snow filled winter I have experienced in NYC recently.

I will be taking a taxi to the airport, which will allow me to wear something comfortable and lightweight.

Once on the plane, I am going to finish the biography of Peggy Guggenheim ( I have been secretly obsessed with her and her eccentricities and her fond appreciation for art for some time now).

I am looking forward to sheading my northern layers and exposing a bit of skin.

I also look forward to relaxing by my friend’s pool for most of the week.

Tomorrow can’t come soon enough.

Powder Room

*Jean Alan, Jean Alan Inc.

As if I need any reminders of the rats and pidgeons that invade NYC streets, I would like this wallpaper inside my bathroom in a custom color of black on white background.

It’s reminiscent of damask without being too stuffy.

Decant This!

I love decanters, I remember my mother having a green decanter with frosted etchings on the front that resembled a flower; She used it every chance she could.

On the other hand, wine and spirits alike, don’t last long enough in my apartment to warrant decanting.

None the less, I still love decanters and here are a few of my faves.

Shades of Gray

I will be painting my new apartment next week and have chosen to go with an all gray theme throughout.

I have decided to go with Benjamin Moore Pigeon Gray for the walls,

and Dior Gray for the accent striped wall I have planned for the hallway.

To some gray is a depressing color, I say it is the ultimate neutral that can be accented with many other colors that can bring life and a sense of serenity to one’s space.
